Effects of Non-Holistic Development
Non-holistic development can lead to a lopsided approach to our overall well-being, as we focus on one aspect of our being to the detriment of others. Prioritizing physical development while neglecting emotional or spiritual well-being can result in a sense of emptiness, while prioritizing intellectual development over emotional stability can hinder our ability to form meaningful relationships.
On the other hand, those who prioritize holistic development will experience a more well-rounded and fulfilling life, as they make a conscious effort to develop all aspects of the self.
Negative Effects on Well-being
Non-holistic development can have negative effects on well-being.
- The physical effects of stress and anxiety can lead to various physical illnesses.
- Psychological effects may manifest as nervousness and poor decision-making abilities.
- Emotional instability can result from a weak moral compass and a lack of spiritual connection, leading to stress caused by poor relationships.
- The heart is the seat of the moral self and receives illumination from the spirit. Immoral actions and uncontrollable desires can darken the heart, leading to negative traits such as jealousy, greed, envy, and hypocrisy.
Therefore, taking a holistic development approach is essential for maintaining balance and promoting well-being in all areas of the self.
Holistic Living
Holistic living involves living life on purpose. A life on purpose is not a life just for selfish pursuit but being beneficial to all the creation. This can only be achieved by nourishing and nurturing the self through regular practices such as spending time in nature, meditating, muraqabah, or learning a creative skill set to make conscious responses to every situation.
We can begin connecting with these States of Self by simply taking time to tune into our deeper selves and exploring how we feel on each level – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. A holistic approach helps us to move beyond seeing ourselves as merely physical beings, unlocking insights into other levels of being that can promote self-awareness, clarity, and direction in life.
